The hysteria surrounding reverse migration of members of North-Eastern community to their States of origin has now extended to Hassan too.
Despite assurances by the principal and administrative board of Rajeev Engineering College, five North-Eastern students left for their hometown on Thursday evening. However, 11 students from Nepal and Manipur have stayed back to continue their course.
Rajeev Engineering College principal Prof A N Ramakrishna said that a few students requested leave for five days on Thursday. When asked about the reason, the students said they were afraid of staying and wanted to go back home.
Several students from North-Eastern states are pursuing studies in engineering and nursing colleges here.
Police officers held talks with students and college authorities to reassure students of measures taken for their safety.
Even after giving assurances, five students headed back home owing to pressure from parents, he added.
In Mangala Nursing College, 24 students from Manipur are pursuing their studies. Having finished their exams, a few of them left for their states a couple of days back.
The others, who are left behind, discussed the issue with the principal. The college authorities have reassured them of providing security.
ASP Martin and Inspector Vijaykrishna held discussions with students and assured them of providing security.
