Author Chandrakala Nandavar said that as her father’s job was such that he was transferred from one place to another. Hence, the family would move to different places. “We got a chance to interact with many kinds of people,” she recollected.

Chandrakala said these interactions helped her to study people’s lives and she was eventually inspired by them. Her memories of different places with different people were the inspiration for her columns in ‘Vartha Bharathi’ (written for over a year). The book is a compilation of these columns she wrote for the Kannada daily.

Government PU College Badaermalu Principal Jyothi Chelairu said the book provided the reader with a glimpse of the different cultures and ideologies of the coastal district. “Most of the articles are ideological in nature,” she observed. The 402-page book contains 82 articles.
