Speaking at an awareness programme on ‘Plastic-free Village’ organised at Naringana near here on Thursday, she said that people throw the waste wherever they like knowing the fact that it is a wrong method. Parents should educate their children about waste management and encourage them not to use plastic, she added.

Activist of Dakshina Kannada Parisarasakthara Okkoota Silvester D’Souza said that awareness should be created among people on the consequences of plastic usage.
Resource persons explained villagers of Naringana on how plastic reduces the fertility of soil. A demonstration on making cloth bags was also held as part of the programme.
Naringana Gram Panchayat President K Abdulla presided. Jana Shikshana Trust Director Sheena Shetty, Naringana Gram Panchayat  were present.
