Mudalagi: An Indian Navy personnel from the district died while on duty at Chennai after his service weapon allegedly misfired on Thursday.
Praveen Subhash Khangoudar (24), a native of Kallolli in the taluk, is the deceased jawan. Praveen had joined the Indian Navy in February 2020.
After serving in Kochi and Andaman, he was recently transferred to Chennai.
According to family sources, an hour before the unfortunate incident, Praveen had spoken to his parents and a brother on phone.
An hour later, a Navy officer informed his family that he (Praveen) died after his service weapon misfired and a bullet pierced.
The mortal remains of the soldier will be laid to rest at his native Kallolli at 11 am on Friday.
