Hubballi/DHNS: Opposing the National Education Policy (NEP), School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa said if NEP is implemented in the state, control over the education system would slip into the hands of outsiders, and they might manipulate subjects as per their wish.

Speaking to reporters at Chabbi village off Hubballi on Sunday, Madhu said children must be nurtured with positive thoughts about the nation. Only when education rises above the caste, then a country can witness true progress. Otherwise, it would divide people, he added.

He said that people voted Congress to implement the State Education Policy (SEP) and not NEP. "If NEP is enforced, questions like ‘Who is Kuvempu or Mysuru Maharajas?’ may not have answers. Our state’s history and values will be forgotten," he said.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, he said, “The promise to introduce a state-specific education system and revise textbooks will be fulfilled. Children should first learn Karnataka’s culture, traditions, and systems, and later about other states and the country."

On recruitment of teachers, the minister noted that following the implementation of internal reservation, steps would be taken to appoint 17,500 teachers, including in aided schools.
