As the countdown has begun for the 16th elections to Lok Sabha in the State on April 17, hectic political activities were witnessed in the city on Tuesday.

Top guns of the major political parties made a last minute exercise to woo the voters, as the clock ticked with the public campaign coming to an end at 6 pm, 48 hours before polling.

Before leaving the city for Chikkamagalur, where a convention had been organised, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the party workers from the roof of his house in T K Layout in the city.

In the meeting, mostly attended by the workers from his Varuna and Chamundeshwari Assembly constituencies, Siddaramaiah appealed to them to ensure the victory of sitting MP A H Vishwanath who is seeking re-election from Mysore-Kodagu seat.

Promise

Striking a chord, Siddaramaiah owed his rise in politics to the support of voters at his previous constituency (Chamundeshwari). He also promised to give special attention to both the constituencies to express his gratitude.

With Vishwanath by his side at the meeting, Siddaramaiah appealed to the workers to consider himself as the candidate and cast more number of votes.

In his nearly two hour long stay in the hustings, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda took out a road show in various parts of the city, especially the party’s stronghold where Vokkaliga voters outnumber others.

Gowda who began his road show in a specially designed SUV from Kumbarkoppal on Mysore-KRS road, later addressed the public gathering at Manchegowdana Koppal. He later proceeded towards Kuvempu circle (Mathrumandali Circle) at Paduvarahalli in a road show, which culminated at K G Koppal.

BJP candidate Prathap Simha accompanied by actors Jaggesh and MLC Tara took out a road show in Gokulam and various other parts of the city. Earlier to this, Simha and former minister S A Ramdas launched the campaigning for the day at Alanahalli. The party workers also took out a two-wheeler rally.
