Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) inducted five new Airavat Club Class 2.0 buses on Friday.
Two buses each will run on Mangaluru-Bengaluru and Mysuru-Mantralaya routes, and one between Bengaluru and Tirupati, the KSRTC said.
The corporation first launched these Volvo 9600 series buses in December 2024, and now has 25 of them.
At the launch event on Friday, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy also issued appointment orders to 45 KST constables recruited on compassionate grounds.
He also disbursed Rs 1 crore to the family of an employee who died in an accident, and Rs 2.60 crore to the dependents of 26 employees who died of reasons other than accidents (Rs 10 lakh each).
The KSRTC said it had resumed recruitments on compassionate grounds after a decade, with 271 posts being filled in the last year.
Under the accident insurance scheme, the KSRTC has disbursed Rs 27 crore to the families of as many as 27 employees who died in accidents.
Under the employee family welfare relief scheme, the corporation has disbursed Rs 15.10 crore to the families of 151 employees who died of heart attacks, cancer, stroke and other health issues.
