The new buildings of the Science and Commerce blocks of Mangalore University PG centre at Chikkaluvara was inaugurated on Monday.

Dr V Sivaprasad, Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Mysuru, director, inaugurated the new establishments.

He opined that there is a favourable atmosphere in Chikkaluvara PG centre for the higher studies and research of students. The facilities in the centre should be utilised, he added.

700 students

Prof K Byrappa, Mangalore University former vice chancellor and Adichunchanagiri University vice chancellor, said that the Chikkaluvara PG centre, which was started by Mangalore University four years ago, now has more than 700 students.

“The centre is equipped with good facilities such as library and student hostels and has been catering to the education needs of students from Kodagu and the neighbouring districts. There are 12 departments in the centre,” he added.

Mangalore University vice chancellor in-charge Prof C K Kishore Kumar presided over the programme.

University finance officer Prof Ravindrachari, University Registrar (Evaluation) Prof A M Khan and Chikkaluvara PG centre director in-charge Prof Manjula Shantaram were present at the inauguration.
