Mangaluru: A total of 25 drunk and driving cases were registered during a special drive initiated by the traffic police in Mangaluru during new year celebrations on the night of December 31.

A total of 553 vehicles were checked in Mangaluru Commissionerate limits covering four traffic stations during the special drive, said Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal.

As many as 90 vehicles were inspected at Nanthoor Junction in Mangluru East Traffic police station limits and three cases were booked. 138 vehicles were inspected at Kottara Chowki and Kuntikana Junction in Traffic West Police Station limits and five cases were booked.

In Mangaluru North Traffic police station limits, 230 vehicles were checked at Baikampady Junction, near Kuloor Ayyappa Gudi and Red Rock, Mukka and 11 cases were booked by the police. As many as 95 vehicles were checked at Pumpwell Junction and Padil Junction coming under Mangaluru South Traffic Station limits and six cases were booked.

As a part of new year 'bandobast' to manage crowd safety, regulate traffic, and maintain law and order, a total of 804 personnel were deployed in commissionerate limits.
