Mangaluru: National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) acted swiftly and filled up potholes on Nethravathi bridge on Thokkottu - Mangaluru stretch after photographs exposing the surface of the road went viral on social media.
A motorist had experienced a tyre burst while travelling on the Nethravati bridge due to the potholes on the stretch. Two tyres of the car also had burst due to the potholes.
The motorist had shared his woes on social media and held NHAI responsible for the incident due to poor maintenance.
The motor rider in his message had urged other vehicle users to drive carefully on the bridge. Officials concerned should act swiftly, he urged.
Activist Shashidhar Shetty responding to the issue said despite collecting road tax, toll collection, huge potholes persists on the roads. It is the responsibility of officials to ensure that roads are well maintained keeping safety of motorists and vehicles in the mind.

Though monsoons ended three months ago, NHAI is yet to fill up potholes and asphalt service roads. The work on the flyover at Nanthoor circle has been stalled and the work on a new bridge in Kuloor has been limping for the past four years. The residents and road users have been facing endless miseries due to road widening works in Poonjalkatte, Gundya and B C road. "If the district level meeting is not convened at the earliest, protests against NHAI and district administration will be held across the district," Samithi Convenor Muneer Katipalla stressed.
