NIA officers search house of blast suspect

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers conducted a search at the house of Mohammad Rafeeq alias Javeed alias Alam Jeb Afridi, the prime suspect in the Church Street blast case, on Saturday and completed the spot mahajar.

The officers went to his house at Vinayaka Layout in Parappana Agrahara and did a thorough search. The team brought him to Bengaluru on Saturday afternoon from Delhi and completed the mahajar in his presence.

Rafeeq gave information about the places from where he had brought the raw materials. The team visited all these places and collected information, said the sources.
He was staying at the house owned by K T Ashraf for the last three years.

He had made an advance payment of Rs 20,000 and was paying a rent of Rs 3,200 per month. Rafeeq had assembled the raw materials and prepared the Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which he kept near the Coconut Grove Bar and Restaurant on Church Street. The IED exploded at around 8.30 pm on December 28. Rafeeq was sharing the house with an accomplice who got married about six months ago, after which he moved to a different location.

The police have decided to detain him for questioning.
