Heaps of mud caved in on a house following a landslide at Koyila village in Kadaba taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday.

After being pounded by relentless showers in the last two days, Dakshina Kannada witnessed a respite on Saturday. While a few places, including Belthangady taluk received intermittent spells of heavy rain on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, most parts of the district witnessed drizzling through the day.
Mudslips and minor landslides were reported at several places in the district. Traffic on Layilu-Ninnikallu Chandkur road, Harakere and Perla-Baipady road was hit following landslides.
At least three cattle heads were lost after heaps of mud and boulders fell on cattle sheds in Puttur taluk. Several houses were also damaged in the landslips.
Both Belathangady and Puttur taluks experienced heavy overnight downpour. Belanduru in Puttur taluk witnessed a massive 480 mm of rain in the last 24 hours (ending at 8.30 am on Saturday). Belthangady town received 370 mm while Bellare in Sullia taluk recorded 280 mm of rain. As many as 10 places in Dakshina Kannada have experienced over 100 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
An overhead drinking water tank at Koyila Janata Colony in Kadaba taluk. A madrasa and a couple of houses were damaged at Gandibagilu. A brief spell of heavy rain, coupled with thunder and lightning, on Friday evening left Uppinangady flooded with water from overflowing drains gushing into homes and shops.
The water level in Netravathi river has crossed 7.5 metre, just 1 metre away from reaching the danger mark. The revenue officials have urged the people living on the banks to move to a safer place along with their cattle.
Heavy rains lashed Kodagu in the night, but reduced to drizzling in the day. It’s been the case since Thursday. Places close to Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada, including Sampaje and Peraje, saw heavy rain on Friday night. Madikeri also witnessed 170 mm of rain on Friday night.
A 33kV transformer was damaged in the overnight rain between Virajpet and Murnadu. Mudslips have been reported at several coffee estates, including the one at Koothi village in Somwarpet taluk. Overcast conditions prevailed at most of the places in north and south interior Karnataka.
