Mysuru: MLC Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah said, “There is no fault of either Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in the RCB party stampede at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium of Bengaluru, on Wednesday, that claimed 11 lives and left over 50 injured."
Speaking to media people, in Mysuru, on Thursday, Dr Yathindra, son of CM Siddaramaiah, said, “It’s true that mistakes happened in yesterday’s incident. The Karnataka government has also admitted the problems. More people came than expected, which led to the mishap. There was pressure on the government to hold the event, so it was planned.”
In reply to a question, Dr Yathindra said, “The programme held in front of Vidhana Soudha had no shortcomings. Only ministers, their family members and relatives attended. There was no flaw in it.”
Replying to a question on BJP’s accusations, Dr Yathindra said, “The BJP leaders, who were insisting on holding the event, are now playing hypocrisy. People rushed to the stadium to see the cricketers. A judicial committee has been formed, to identify whose mistakes it were. Let us wait for the report.”
He said, “It’s not correct to say that the mishap occurred because the events were held in two different places. If a roadshow had been held, the cricketers’ security would have been compromised. So, the roadshow was cancelled. Two to three fold more people showed up than expected. That’s why the mishap happened.”
