"The proposal for setting up AIIMS in Hubballi-Dharwad region of Karnataka has been received from the state government. The proposal has not been approved," Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharati Pravin told the Rajya Sabha.

Replying to BJP member Lehar Singh Siroya, the minister said, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, AIIMS branches are set up in different parts of the country in a phased manner, keeping in mind the gaps in the availability of tertiary healthcare facilities. Till date, 22 AIIMS units have been sanctioned under the scheme, the minister said.
