There will be no shortage of drinking water till May first week. CMC President and Commissioner Srikanthrao who visited Kootuhole and assessed the storage of water on Tuesday. The CMC has been supplying water to the citizens on alternative days from March 3 due to the shortage of water in Kootuhole. However, owing to the heavy rains that lashed Madikeri on Yugadi, the water level in Kootuhole has increased.
The water level in Roshanara, Kannandabane, Pampinakere is on decline. As a result, two tankers are used to supply water to the sump, to be distributed in pipeline. There is no question of supplying water through tankers in the town, he clarified, Ponnappa said.
Kundamestri project
He said the first phase of the work on Kundamestri project, which aim at solving drinking water problem in the town will be undertaken within one-and-half months. The estimated cost of the first phase of the work is Rs 6.5 crore. The work on the Kundamestri project has been given to Sudheer Infrastructure of Hyderabad. After getting approval from Karnataka Water Supply and Drainage Board, the work on the project will be started. In the first phase, jackwell and pipeline will be laid. In the second phase, new dam near Kootuhole will be constructed. Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) will lay electricity line near Kootuhole for the convenience of the supply of water. This will also solve the variation in voltage for the supply of water. When there is disruption in the supply of power, the water is supplied using generator. Generator requires 29 litre diesel for one hour, Ponnappa informed. He said “CMC has decided to install filter under Kundamestri project. Kartnataka Water Supply Board tests the water supplied to the town once in three months.” They also inspected the ongoing work on the construction of water tank at Putani Nagara. The tank is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 16 lakh. The 2.5 lakh capacity tank will supply water to Putaninagara, Dechoor, Banemotte, Omkareshwara temple and surrounding areas.
