No case has been registered by the Mysuru City Police for violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling on bursting of firecrackers from 8 pm to 10 pm during Deepavali, in the city.
The Supreme Court had fixed 8 pm to 10 pm for the bursting of firecrackers during
Deepavali and other festivals. Some people were found abiding by the Supreme Court order, but some others allegedly violated, by bursting the crackers at their time of convenience over the days of celebration, claim environmental activists.
According to Mysuru City Police, no violation of the court order was found. Also, no complaints were lodged. Sources said, all police stations in the city were alerted about the court’s order and the personnel were asked to keep a vigil.
The department had also appealed to the people to abide by the order.
Speaking to DH, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) N Vishnuvardhan said, “We have not received any complaint regarding the bursting of firecrackers against the ruling of the Supreme Court. It has not come to our notice also. We abide by the ruling of the court and it has been strictly implemented.”
G B Santhosh Kumar, secretary of Mysore Science Foundation, said, “The number of people who purchase crackers and burst them has come down. But, the court’s ruling on the bursting of crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm has not been followed. The court’s ruling has been violated in many places during the festival days.”
He said, the officials concerned should strictly implement the court’s order, by creating awareness among the people. “The bursting of crackers will affect human beings and the environment,” he added.
