MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan visited the APMC warehouse on Wednesday and examined the leftover relief materials stored in the godown.

He also expressed discomfiture over the non-utilisation of relief materials received from across the state for the Kodagu floods.

Ranjan examined the quality of the materials and found that some of the food items were no longer fit for consumption. “The perishable materials should have been distributed among the people within the right time. Now, a lot of relief items have been wasted,” he said and added, “The matter will be raised in the KDP meeting.”

The legislator refuted the argument of environmentalists that the Kodagu flash floods and landslides were the results of human activities.

“The flash floods were certainly not man-made. The report submitted by the environmentalists to the government is false. How can human beings cause flash floods in the region? There were no homestays or resorts in the places where the landslides occurred. There were also no mining activities going on in the places,” he argued.

The environmentalists’ report on the flash floods is entirely prejudiced, he insisted.

Ranjan later visited the government hospital in Kushalnagar and distributed fruits among the patients to observe the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister later Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Zilla Panchayat member K R Manjula, Town Panchayat member Amrith Raj, leaders K G Manu and Bose Monnapppa were present.
