Speaking to the press in Hassan city on Monday, he asked, “Did the seers (Swamis) have the figures of the population of their communities until now? Now, not only the Swamis, but everyone can else can review the caste census”.

“However, nothing has been decided yet. Action will be taken based on the opinion that emerges from the Cabinet discussion,” he said.

In reply to a question on the BJP’s opposition to the caste census, he asked, “What do the BJP leaders know? We don’t expect the opposition to agree with us on the issue”.

In response to a question, regarding the BJP’s accusation that the census is meant to divide Hindus on caste lines, Rajanna said, “Ours is a harmonious Hindutva, advocated by Mahatma Gandhi.

"The BJP talks on the principles of Nathuram Godse, who violently killed Gandhi. We are not the followers of Godse Hindutva".
