Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, Shivakumar noted that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting would start at 3 pm on Thursday since Mahatma Gandhi had also taken over as the Congress president at the historic Belagaum session at 3 pm on December 26, 1924.

He added that All India Congress President (AICC) Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would plant one sapling each at the Veera Soudha.

Shivakumar noted that the government programme of unveiling the Gandhi statue would be held at 10.30 am on Friday at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS), followed by the "Jai Bapu - Jai Bhim - Jai Samvidhan" rally at 12 pm.

Having around 150 attendees, the CWC meeting will compromise CWC members, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents, former chief ministers and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said that all CWC members would be gifted a Mysuru silk shawl, local sweets like Kunda and Kardantu and a leather bag with Mysore Sandal soap and a copy of Gandhi's "Nanna Kanasina Bharatha."
