Official on poll duty dies of heart attack

A government official appointed on election duty as sector officer in the Karwar Lok Sabha constituency died of heart attack while on duty late on Friday night.

The officer, identified as 52-year-old Ravikantha R Malsekar, is survived by his wife and two children. A native of Binaga in Karwar taluk, he served as the assistant director in the Social Welfare department in Ankola.

Malsekar rushed on his vehicle on Friday night, on receiving information that liquor was being illegally transported near Ankola. Around 12 midnight, he complained of chest pain and was rushed to Kamala Bai Hospital, where he died, said the officials.
