Speaking at the second tribal convention organised by Kannada University Tribal Study Centre, Karkala Bhuvanendra College, Karnataka-Kerala Koraga Development Federation, district administration, Udupi Girijana Abhivridhi Yojane on Saturday, he said “officials keep quite after furnshing statistics on the development of tribals. If you had the earnest desire to develop tribals, then you have to work by joining hands with the folk experts, organisations who have been supporting the cause of tribals.”
He called upon the beuracrats to take tribals to confidence. The tribals are facing the same problems as they were facing before the independence. Prior to independence, in the pretext of studying the culture of tribals, foreigners took advantage of their weekness and used them for commercial purpose.” Several schemes which have been framed for the development of tribals are not reaching the tribals, he added.
Alva’s Education Trust Chairman Dr Mohan Alva said the use of reservation for SC/ST has not been felt so far. The problems are persistent even to this day. It is evident from the fact that Koraga community which has a history of over 3,000 years has not produced an MBBS doctor so far.
