Despite the deluge due to unprecedented rains, old-timers are happy as they say, Kodagu has regained its past glory of heavy rains and mist covered mountains. K A Chinnappa, a retired bank official, said that Kodagu is described as the Scotland of the East. “It had been only basking on past glory because the region had been experiencing drought since 2002. Only in 2013, there were considerable rains in between. Tourists flock the region, mainly due to the attraction of resorts and homestays now. Some come here for eco-tourism. Even though the rains have brought hardships to the people, rains are welcome,” he said.

He said the planners in the government should expect rains and plan accordingly. “This is a hill station. One should know, how much of it can be exploited and how much of it should be conserved. The authorities concerned should lay out some guidelines,” said Chinnappa.
