According to the police, a car fitted with a fake number plate — was spotted speeding towards Mangaluru via Charmadi. Reportedly, three cattle from Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district were crammed inside the car in a cruel manner.

Despite being aware of the dangers posed to human life, the driver allegedly drove recklessly at high speed. Acting on a tip-off, Belthangady police signalled the vehicle to stop at Guruvayanakere. However, the driver attempted to flee, ramming into an autorickshaw and an electricity pole before coming to a halt.

In the ensuing commotion, the accused allegedly shoved police personnel, obstructing them from performing their duty. Two suspects escaped, while the driver — identified as Arif (26) of Suvarna Nagar, Moodbidri — was arrested.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the absconding suspects are also from Suvarna Nagar, Moodbidri, and have been identified as Rizwan (30) and Sayil (22).

A case has been registered at Belthangady police station, and further investigation is underway.
