One held for pelting stones at temple in Karnataka's Belagavi Locals on noticing that a person has been pelting stones at the temple, caught him and tied to a pole and was later handed over to police.

Belagavi: A person who pelted stones at Ashwathama temple in Pangul Galli was caught by the people from the area and handed over to the police late night on Wednesday.

Incident led in communal tensions in the busy market area for a while as there was movement of people to meet the needs of Ramadan.

Locals on noticing that a person has been pelting stones at the temple, caught him and tied to a pole and was later handed over to police. The person identified himself as Yasir resident of Ujwal Nagar.

Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang informed that last night one accused aged around 19-years-old had taken a stone and hit the gate of Ashwathama temple in Pangul Galli in Market police station limits. Immediately the crowd caught him and tied him to a pole.

A police team secured him, and cases have been registered. The boy has been undertaking psychiatric treatment for a while. He stated that he committed the offence because he wanted to avenge for the incident during Holi when someone wore a dress similar to a burqa, he said.

Market police are investigating the case.
