Bhadravathi: In a major incident, one person died and seven others sustained burn injuries in a boiler explosion at Ganesha rice mill at Seegebagi taluk on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Raghu, who was trapped inside the rice mill, which collapsed. The body was retrieved in the wee hours of Friday.

The intensity of the explosion razed down the rice mill and shook the houses close to it. The boiler's lid was propelled 2 kilometers away, damaging the roof of a house where it landed. The windshield of a car parked near the building was damaged due to the explosion.

Seven workers were admitted to the hospital with burn injuries on their faces and parts of their bodies, according to eyewitnesses.

Relatives of the workers were distressed, while firefighters, police personnel, revenue, and health department officials were on the spot assisting those trapped inside.

SP G K Mirhun Kumar said all the injured persons are undergoing treatment in the hospital and are out of danger. A case has been registered by the Hosamane Police.
