Only 4% of elderly population in Karnataka vaccinated so far91,312 or 10% of Bengaluru's elderly population has been vaccinated

The Health department put out an estimated population aged above 60 years, as per 2011 census projection here on Thursday, which is 54,87,399.

So far, only four per cent, which is 2,17,085 elderly, have been vaccinated since the vaccination drive for senior citizens began on March 1.

Bengaluru Urban is home to the highest number of senior citizens in the state among all 30 districts with 9,11,336 senior citizens, out of which 91,312 senior citizens have been vaccinated.

This amounts to 10 per cent vaccination coverage which is the highest in the state when compared to other districts. Belagavi has the second highest number of senior citizens with 4,47,953 and 6,876 out of them have been vaccinated, which is a mere 1.5% coverage.

Other three districts with highest number of elderly are Mysuru (2,79,185; out of which 3.6% are vaccinated), Tumakuru (2,69,585; out of which 7.2% are vaccinated), and Dakshina Kannada (2,01,609; out of which 3.6% are vaccinated).
