As per the decision taken at a meeting of the taskforce headed by Deputy Commissioner K Amaranarayana here on Thursday, iron ore can be transported only for industrial purposes and not for export. The ore will be transported based on the requirement and a team headed by the Karwar Sub-divisional officer will conduct periodic inspections to check on the usage of the ore.
Following the ban on transport of iron ore imposed by the State, six iron industries from Goa submitted an appeal to the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada. A team headed by the officials from the Mines and Geology department visited Goa to check the demand for ore.
