Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police have decided to invoke Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) against an accused arrested in overseas job visa fraud in Mangaluru.
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) personnel have arrested the main accused involved in the case in which over 300 people were defrauded to the tune of over Rs 4 crore by promising overseas jobs.
The police have verified the background of the arrested from Maharashtra. Two separate cases have been registered against them in Mangaluru North and Navi Mumbai police stations. As the arrested have two cases, it has been decided to invoke KCOCA against them. The police have already submitted a request to the court in this regard, said commissioner.
Under the KCOCA, the police have special powers and it will be difficult for the accused to get bail from the court. KCOCA can be invoked against those who have two or more cases against them, the Commissioner said, warning all habitual offenders.
It may be recalled that the CCB had arrested three persons in connection with the fraud involving Hireglow Elegant Overseas International Private Limited. The arrested are Masiulla Atiulla Khan, from Mumbai, Dil Shaad Abdul Sathar Khan, a resident of Navi Mumbai, and Sahukari Kishore Kumar alias Anil Patel, from Dombivli, Thane.
The commissioner said the arrested had allegedly opened an office under the name Hireglow Elegant Overseas International (OPC) Private Limited at Bendoorwell in Mangaluru. Through newspaper advertisements and misleading claims, they convinced job seekers of guaranteed employment abroad and collected money and cheated them by not ensuring job and visas.
