According to the doctors, the woman came to the hospital complaining of severe pain in the abdomen and severe loss of appetite. While she was suspected of having severe malaria, tests showed that she had lymphoma of the spleen. This condition is seen only in one per cent of non-Hodgkins lymphoma patients.

"It is like cancer. Usually, the spleen weighs 150 gms but for this patient it weighed 4 kg and a spleenectomy was performed over three hours," said Dr Venkatesh, Associate Professor of Surgery.
