Ray, a 1993 batch IFS officer, was posted as principal secretary to the government, Forest, Ecology and Environment Department.

He will take over the post starting from July 1, at a time when the wildlife wing has come under scrutiny over the death of five tigers in the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary. Manoj Kumar, an officer of the 1997 batch, replaced Ray as the principal secretary while holding concurrent charge of Mysore Sales International Limited as its managing director.

The government transferred Upendra Pratap Singh, a 2000 batch officer, as the commissioner of the Watershed Development Department.
