D C Sannaswamy, president of SC/ST wing of Congress said that the party workers would take out a padayatra from Gundia to Sakleshpur from the first day of legislative assembly session opposing the government’s negligence and failure in protecting the people living on the fringes of the forest from the attack of the wild animals.

Speaking at a press meet held in Hassan on Thursday, he said a person was trampled and a woman seriously injured in a wild jumbo attack in Alur a couple of days ago.

The family of the deceased has been given only Rs two lakh as a compensation. The forest department officials say that the remaining three lakh would be given after funds are released from the government.

They criticised the growing disparity in the forest department. The injured woman, who is being treated at the government hospital has been provided only Rs 2,000 and he demanded the remaining amount to be paid at the earliest.

Citing the recent confusion in the Congress meeting, he held taluk unit president Vidyashankar and leader Y P Rajegowda responsible. There is a system that all the names of the office-bearers be listed in the programme invite.

But he alleged that the vested interests have included the names as per their preferences. When this was questioned by the workers, no responsible answer was given.

He criticised the leader’s announcement that he had been expelled from the party. They can inform the high command but do not have the authority to expel him from the party, he said. All the issues have been brought to the notice of KPCC president K Parameshwar.

The representatives from KPCC will visit Hassan on February 20 to hold a discussion, he said.

Unit taluk president Sanjay and Mahesh were present.
