Nearly seven among nine houses in Dhoomappa compound in Pandeshwar were gutted in a massive blaze on Saturday night.
Most of the inmates were not present in the house when fire engulfed the houses. A major disaster was averted as fire personnel rushed to the spot and had succeeded in containing the blaze in quick time.
The blaze would have spread to other houses in the densely populated area if the LPG cylinders were not shifted to a safe location.
