Bengaluru: The government has decided to set up committees headed by MLAs to monitor the functioning of government schools.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said CM Siddaramaiah gave approval for constitution of committees and they will start functioning from January 2025.
The minister said, earlier this exercise was being done at the district-level by ZP CEOs. “This is for the first time that MLA-led panels are being formed to oversee functioning of government and aided schools,” he said
Tahsildar of the concerned taluks, block education officers (BEOs), executive officers of taluk panchayats, head masters of primary and high schools, principals of PU colleges, representatives of District Institute of Educational Training, an officer from Panchayat Raj department will be members of the panel.
Madhu mentioned that the department is getting thousands of crores of rupees from corporates as social responsibility funds and the utilisation of such funds and implementation of the programmes must be monitored properly.
“The committee will be responsible even to monitor CSR fund utilisation. The committee must meet once in two or three months,” he said.
The Department in association with SwaTaleem Foundation and Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, has launched ‘Saheli Ki Udaan - Gelathiyarondige Harona’, a flagship programme to empower adolescent girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and Karnataka Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KKGBVs).
The programme focuses on addressing issues of girls from deprived communities.
