Udupi: A case has been registered at Udupi CEN station for cheating by promising admission to a paramedical college and taking money to the tune of Rs 19.5 lakh.
In a complaint, Rashmi associated with the Nethrajyothi Charitable Trust and Prasad Nethralaya said that they have been running two paramedical colleges — Nethrajyothi College of Paramedical Sciences and Nethrajyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences since 2016. For the current academic year, there has been publicity in various media regarding student admissions to these colleges.
Kesham Vikram Singh from Manipur contacted the complainant via WhatsApp and informed her that there are thousands of students in his state who are ready to pursue paramedical education. He assured her that he would bring 268 students during the year and get them admitted to the complainant’s institution. He stated that the train and flight expenses to bring the students would need to be borne by the institution.
Trusting him, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 19.5 lakh between September 19 and January 24. However, the did not bring any students despite paying him money to bear the expenses.
A case has been registered at the CEN Station under Sections 66(C) of the IT Act and 318(4) of the BNS.
