Owing to the negligence of the Madikeri CMC, parks that are supposed to provide relaxation and entertainment for the visitors, have remained utterly neglected.
There are 10 parks which come under the jurisdiction of CMC in Madikeri.
People visiting the parks are disappointed at the sight of the poorly maintained parks. Weeds have grown all over these parks and are posing an inconvenience to visitors.
No facilities
People who visit the park do not have proper seating arrangements. There are no drinking water facilities in the park. The CMC has failed to develop these parks, said many visitors.
War Memorial Park, Rotary Park near Omkareshwara Temple, Guddemane Appayya Park in Sudarshan Circle, Kuvempu Park at Raja Seat, Toy Train Park, Field Marshal K M Cariappa Park, Ranipete Park, Stuart Hill Park and Pension Lane Park come under CMC jurisdiction in Madikeri.
The parks that were developed spending lakhs of rupees are crying for attention. None can enter the park at Pension Lane due to the overgrown weeds and garbage dumped all over.
CMC Vice President T S Prakash said, “As per the government’s order, there is a need for one civic worker for a population of 700. The CMC had 65 civic workers in the past. Now, there are only 45 civic workers. Furthermore, a few civic workers take leave often citing health issues. Madikeri requires more number of civic workers during monsoon. The issue has been brought to the notice of the MLA.”
The public has urged the CMC to turn their attention to the maintenance of the parks.
CMC Commissioner B Shubha said, “The parks have been entrusted to a few organisations for its maintenance. A few are maintained well.”
