Shivamogga: A young woman undergoing treatment for dengue was rushed to a Mumbai hospital by a special flight on Saturday for emergency treatment after a team of doctors from Nanjappa Hospital in the city found that she had a serious liver problem during an examination.
The police, provided "zero traffic" facility from Nanjappa Hospital on Kuvempu Road to the Airport at Sogane covering a distance of more than 20 km and cleared the way for the ambulance.
Manya Jain (21), daughter of Manoj, is the young woman who was airlifted from Shivamogga airport for Mumbai. She was admitted to Nanjappa hospital after she did not fully recover from dengue at a private hospital. When she was examined, she was found to have a liver problem.
"She was treated seven days ago after she developed fever and was diagnosed with dengue. She was admitted to Nanjappa Hospital on July 25 and a blood test revealed that she had a liver problem. There is a possibility of 1% of dengue cases developing liver problems. This could also lead to multiple organ failure. Therefore, she has been shifted to Mumbai for emergency treatment," said Dr Rakesh, a specialist at Nanjappa Hospital.
