Khanapur: A person was hacked to death in the premises of Maruti Temple at Gandhi Nagar layout in the town when elders had assembled for a compromise meeting on Sunday evening.

Person murdered has been identified as Suresh Bhimappa Bandiwaddar (36) resident of Halkarni village in Khanapur taluk.

Sources said, there was enmity between Suresh Bandiwaddar and Yallappa Bandiwaddar resident of Gandhi Nagar layout in the town. A meeting had been called by the elders for compromise between them. During the meeting verbal exchanges broke out between Suresh and Yallappa and it escalated.

While elders had been making efforts to cool both of them, Yallappa who had knife in his possession stabbed Suresh in stomach. Yallappa also attacked Sagar Aptekar and others who who were attempting to separate both the victim and accused.

Suresh was taken to General Hospital in the town for treatment. Later while he was being taken to Belagavi for treatment, he succumbed due to bleeding.

Yallappa (62) along with the knife used for stabbing came to the police station and was secured.

Khanapur police are investigating.
