Former minister Motamma, who heads a subcommittee that will make recommendations to the Karnataka government on how to check crimes against women, has said that she would urge the administration to set up a state-level cell to receive complaints of crimes against women.
Speaking to reporters after holding the first meeting of the subcommittee at the Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday, she said a top-ranking woman government official had been appointed the nodal officer to receive complaints. This will be part of the recommendations the panel will make.
The subcommittee was set up by an expert committee formed by the government under the chairmanship of former law minister M C Nanaiah for the same purpose. It has 12 members, including Motamma.
The subcommittee will hold consultations with different sections of the society and elicit views on the increasing crimes against women. It will also look into the harassment women face while lodging police complaints, she said.
