According to sources, the proposal included 138.90 km road in Dakshina Kannada at an estimated cost of Rs 6885.22 lakhs. The proposal for Kodagu included 60.97 km road at an estimated cost of Rs 2129.79 lakhs.
“The proposal which was sent under IX phase is pending before the Central government for approval. It is likely to be approved this year under X plan,” said sources and added that Karnataka is second in the implementation of PMGSY, proposals of other states which were lagging behind in its implementation were given priority.
He said the work undertaken under VIII plan is almost nearing completion and the pending works will be ready by year end.
Work proposals
The work proposal for Bantwal taluk include Saraje-Vittal road covering a distance of 5.23 km at an estimated cost of Rs 256.26 lakh. Irvathur-Bambila will cover a distance of 4.66 km at an estimated cost of Rs 203.75 lakh. The Muliya-Sathyasai Vihara Road will cover 6.42 km at an estimated cost of Rs 341.50 lakh.
The proposal for Belthangady taluk includes a total of 78.50 km road at an estimated cost of Rs 4396.46 lakh. This include Nittade road—8.55 km at the cost of Rs 419.03 lakh, Kolpady road—13.47 km at the cost of Rs 883.40 lakh, Echila road—12.89 km and the estimated cost is Rs 590.47 lakh, Keladapete road—9.90 km and the estimated cost is Rs 459.34 lakh, Hunipaje road—13.44 km and the cost is 961.42 lakh, Bollur—14.43 km and the estimated cost is Rs 785.55 lakh, Kallethi—5.55 km and the cost is 297.25 lakh. While Mangalore taluk has one road in the proposal. The road is developing Shanthipadavu road covering 8.94 km and the estimated cost is Rs 319.75 lakh.
Two roads each in Puttur and Sullia are included in the proposal. They are Bantaje road covering 3.94 km at an estimated cost of Rs 187.40 lakh and Shantimugeru covering 4.21 km at a cost of Rs 144.10 lakh.
In Sullia, the total length of the road to be developed under PMGSY is 27 km and the estimated cost is Rs 1036 lakh. This include Thotadamajalu-Mavinakatte—18.27 km and the cost Rs 756 lakh and Doddakumeri-Aranthodu—8.73 km at the cost of Rs 280 lakh.
Kodagu district
As per the work proposal, two roads will be developed in Madikeri taluk at the cost of Rs 1008.45 lakh. The roads are: Uchambu— 6.65 km and the cost is Rs 255.70 lakh and M Chambu—21.04 km at an estimated cost of Rs 752.75 lakh.
Two roads will be developed in Somwarpet taluk. They are: Kodagarahalli—Athurnallur covering 9.68 km at the cost of Rs 300.58 lakh and Muvathoklu—1.73 km at the cost of Rs 53.85 lakh.
The proposal has five roads in Virajpet taluk. The total length will be 22.87 km at the cost of Rs 766.91 lakh. The proposed roads are: B Seetygeri-Begur—3.18 km and the cost is Rs 114.42 lakhs, Badarakeri—6.79 km and the cost is RS 227.99 lakh, Nokia. S—1.43 km at the estimated cost of Rs 51.66 lakh, Pulliyeri—5.28 km and the estimated cost is Rs 189.80 lakh and Balale-Devanur covering 6.19 km at the cost of Rs 189.80 lakh.
Selection of roads
Assistant Engineer M R Hebbar said the PMGSY prepares a district rural road plan which will map the length of the road and habitation.
In the second phase, a corenet map will be prepared giving complete details on the habitation which will be covered by the road and the distance for the proposed road from the main road. The first priority will be given to those areas which do not have any means of connectivity or kutcha road.
Once the details are prepared, then comprehensive upgraded priority list (CUPL) will be prepared. Once the CUPL list is approved, then the government will ask for a detailed project report and the work will commence, he added.
