Mangaluru: Karnataka BJP President and MLA B Y Vijayendra alleged that the police in Dakshina Kannada have turned into puppets in the hands of the Congress led state government.

Addressing media people at the district BJP office in Mangaluru on Monday, he stated that the police in the district should not succumb to the pressure by the ruling government.

Following developments after Suhas Shetty murder, the state BJP has formed a team comprising Vijayendra, Opposition leader in assembly A Ashoka, Opposition leader in council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, former CM D V Sadananda Gowda, Deputy Leader of Opposition Aravinda Bellad, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, BJP state general secretary and Chikkamagaluru MLA C T Ravi, Legislative Council Chief Whip of opposition N Ravikumar and former IPS officer Bhaskar Rao.

The leaders have called on Hindu leaders, Superintendent of Police and Commissioner of Police in Mangaluru on Monday. The team was accompanied by MLAs and MPs of the district, he said.

Under the pretext of stringent implementation of law and order, police in the district have been showing hooligan behaviour by barging into the houses of Hindu leaders at wee house, following instructions by the state government, which are absurd. “A lady police constable had even pointed her pistol at the parents of a Hindu leader”.

The fact-finding committee of the Congress has also been targeting Hindu leaders in order to suppress the strong fortress of Hindutva in the region.

The government is targeting Hindu activists through police. "Why is there no action against love jihad, illicit drug trafficking, illegal cattle transport and illegal sand mining and transportation in the district?" he asked.

If the raids on Hindu leaders continue, BJP will carry out massive protests by taking to the streets. “The state government will be entirely responsible for the consequences thereafter.”

Speaking on the occasion, Opposition leader R Ashoka welcomed the move by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to hand over the Suhas Shetty murder case to NIA. The involvement of foreign hands and that of the banned PFI in the murder will be proved, he said.

“Even though the central government has issued directions to the states to take measures to deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Pakistan, the state government has not initiated any action,” Ashoka alleged.

Opposition leader in the council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, deputy leader of opposition Aravinda Bellad, former Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, Belthangady MLA Harish Punja, Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya and District BJP President Satish Kumpala were present in the press meet.
