Mangaluru: An inquiry has been initiated by the police into an alleged conspiracy to poison animals in Pilikula Biological Park, Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district.

"The probe started after a complaint was submitted by the Director of the Biological Park. However, FIR has yet to be registered", Kavoor Police said.

The complaint stated that a person by the name Khader was providing meat to the carnivorous animals in Pilikula, on contract basis. Acting on Khader's instructions, Abbas and Haneef were supplying meat to the park.

However, a someone else has availed the tender for the supply of meat, from this month.

Following the same, Haneef had allegedly called the Biological Park employee Harish over phone on August 7 and asked the latter to adulterate the meat being supplied to the animals by the new supplier with rotten or poisoned meat.

The recording of an alleged mobile phone conservation between Harish and Haneef has been brought to the notice of the police, the complaint said.

The Director has submitted a complaint to Kavoor police, as per the instructions by the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, said Pilikula Biological Park Commissioner Dr Arun Kumar Shetty. “Animals in the park are safe. The complaint was submitted as a precautionary measure”, he added.
