Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday said that he has asked the police to probe and file a report following clashes in Dharmasthala.
At least four reporters, three running independent YouTube channels, were hurt during the clashes, which occurred even as a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka police is probing allegations of mass burials in the renowned pilgrimage town.
“The SIT was set up with utmost care. The witness has claimed that he has buried several bodies. He has also recorded a statement before the magistrate. The magistrate's direction was that the probe should be based on the statement. We (the government) even formed an SIT, seeing the gravity of the allegations,” Parameshwara said.
The Home Minister said, as reported already in the media, that on point six, the skeletal remains of a male were discovered, while in an unmarked spot, further bones were recovered.
“At the 13th spot, nothing was found. Whatever has been gathered so far, the SIT has sent it for forensic analysis. In the backdrop of all this, two groups clashed on Wednesday. Complaints and counters have been given, and directions have been issued to file the FIRs. The investigation will be held at the discretion of the jurisdictional police and the SIT,” he added.

The Home Minister said that the government won’t give directions to the SIT on how to probe the case.
“The SIT will probe it technically and scientifically so that the truth comes out. Let them do their work. They are capable. Some say SIT is doing a good job, while others disagree. Everyone will suggest things. Some are saying Ground Penetrating Radars (GPRs) should be used. Can the probe be done based on their suggestions? The police are capable and will do the investigation,” Parameshwara added.
