'Politics has fully ruined our national sport'District-level hockey tournament inaugurated

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Mysore District-Level Hockey Tournament for primary, high-schools and colleges in the city on Monday.

Dr Sagar observed that involvement of politicians in the sport has led to the deterioration of the game. Mysore is trying to bring about a revival in sports, he said.

Sports should be included as part of the curriculum. There should be a firm decision on this, he said.

Former international hockey player, Mohan K T said that sports is not given importance in our country. By taking initiatives to organise such tournaments, the sport will flourish, he said.

Advising hockey players assembled for the tournament, Mohan said that hockey is a wonderful game and not like other ball games. He said that for a good hockey player, stick work is extremely important. He observed that a lot of dedication and discipline is required to excel in the game. Coordination, speed, strength and skill are also very important to dominate the sport, he said.For skill, “You’ve got to train for it,” he said.Central Excise and Customs Department superintendent Ashok D, said that playing sports is as important as studying for exams.He said that students participating in sports and NCC will inculcate discipline and it will help them go forward.

The tournament will be held from August 16 to 21. Around 40 teams are participating in the programme.

Journalist Rajashekhar Koti, retired lecturer, department of physical education, University of Mysore, Prof Sheshanna, national sports day celebrations committee, secretary, Pulikeshi Y Shettappanavar, joint secretary C J Nachappa and honorary president K B Dileep were present.
