Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday announced “Mathrusree Scheme” in which Rs 1,000 per month will be transferred directly bank accounts of pregnant women of BPL families for three months prior to the delivery and three months post delivery.

Kumaraswamy said the amount will be increased in a phased manner over the next five years. This scheme is applicable only for the first two children of a woman. An amount of Rs 350 crore is earmarked for this scheme and will be implemented from November 1 this year.

He said the state government in partnership with private institutions proposes to establish a campus on 20 acres for treatment and providing care for the mentally challenged and persons with autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disability. The centre will also provide training to guardians and professionals, conduct training courses for physiotherapy.

Kumaraswamy said the government will implement the recommendation of Jayamala committee constituted to study the condition of sex workers.

“For this purpose, programmes will be framed under the partnership of various developmental departments relating to housing, skill development, self employment, monthly pension and services, food security, social security,” he added.
