Bengaluru, DHNS: Ahead of Bakrid festivities, the Karnataka chapter of the Bajrang Dal will petition heads of local police stations demanding strict enforcement of cattle protection laws. In a statement released by the outfit to the media, Bajrang Dal cited the provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, which prohibits slaughter of cows and their progeny even for religious ceremonies.

Hinting at the possibility of cattle being illegally ferried for slaughter during the festive season, Bajrang Dal urged the police to take pre-emptive measures to prevent the slaughter of cows. The Bajrang Dal suggested stepping up patrolling and setting up checkpoints to prevent illegal transport of cattle. “Once the cattle are slaughtered, enforcement becomes futile,” the statement read.

Cattle roaming freely on the streets or left unsupervised must be taken charge of, and kept safe till after the Bakrid festivities, as a precautionary measure, the Hindu outfit said. The Bajrang Dal assured the police of its complete co-operation in enforcing the law.
