More than 900 police and prison personnel, including 26 from Karnataka Police and Jail department, have been chosen for the prestigious police medals on the occasion of Independence Day.
Vishwanath Shetty, the Superintendent of Police, Yelahanka has been selected for President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services while K Gangappa, Assistant Superintendent, of District HQ Sub Jail in Kolar, has been chosen for President’s Correctional Services Medal for Distinguished Services.
Besides the two officers, three personnel were selected for Police Medal for Gallantry, 17 for Police Medal for Meritorious Services and four personnel from the jail administration for Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

Among the 26 officers, there is only one woman who won the medal, G T Parvatamma, an Assistant Sub Inspector posted in Tumkur.
