The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has provided thrust to health sector, said Union Minister for Fertilisers and Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ONGC-MRPL Anniversary Wing of Government Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru on Saturday.

‘Ayushman Bharat’, introduced by the central government, is one of the biggest health care programmes in the world. As many as 93,000 families will be benefited by the scheme in Dakshina Kannada district.

More than 50 crore people in 10 crore families of the nation are enrolled under ‘Ayushman Bharat’, he said.

“As per the details revealed by the statistics and programme implementation department, it was found that the Indians spend a major part of their income on health treatments. Therefore, the central government opened generic drug shops. The government has given permission for the establishment of 14 All India Institute of Medical Sciences in India”, D V Sadananda Gowda said.

District In-charge Minister U T Khader said there was a need to open high-risk wards in District Wenlock Hospital and Government Lady Goschen Hospital.

An emergency fund should be reserved for emergency treatment.

Chikkaballapur MP M Veerappa Moily sad that the MRPL Managing Director should me made the in-charge officer for the ONGC-MRPL anniversary wing of Lady Goschen Hospital. The government should pass an order in this regard.

Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath presided over the programme. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Zilla Panchayat President Meenakshi Shantigodu, former minister Ramanath Rai, MRPL Managing Director Venkatesh and Group General Manager B H V Prasad were present.
