Bengaluru: Convict and former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna is yet to be allotted work, and the lowest he could earn as wages would be Rs 525 per day.
Shortly after he was convicted of raping his former house help on August 2 by a Bengaluru court, he was moved to the convicts section in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison Complex and assigned prisoner number 15528.
Like all convicts, Prajwal's earnings would fall under four slabs: Rs 525 per day, Rs 555 per day, Rs 625 per day and Rs 665 per day.
"Based on his skills and expertise, he would be allotted work. The allotment is yet to happen. He would have several options after his assessment that include gardening, carpentry, animal husbandry, and industry work," a well-placed police source told DH. "A convict needn't start from the basic level. He will be allotted based on his skill and expertise."
Prajwal will have to stick to the prison schedule like the other convicts do, with specific times to begin his day, have breakfast, lunch and dinner.
He will also have to wear the prisoner's uniform, which has been handed to him. Earlier, he was allowed to wear civil clothes since he was lodged in the high-security cell as he was a former lawmaker under trial.
"Like all convicts, he would be governed and looked after as per the guidelines in the prison manual and the prison rules," the source quoted previously said.
The former MP, who once drew a basic salary of Rs 1.24 lakh per month and, after adding further allowance, would go up to Rs 2.54 lakh, will now be subjected to the hard life of a convict inside the Bengaluru Central Jail. As allegations of rape came to the fore in April 2024, he was expelled from JD(S).
Prajwal was sentenced to life by a Special Court for Elected Representatives in Bengaluru after he was found guilty of raping his former house help. Three more cases are pending against him, with the trial commencing in the second case, where he is accused of repeated rape of a former ZP member.
