Private airlines have hiked air fares exorbitantly for flights from Bangalore to Guwahati and other destinations in the North East. They seem to feel that the perfect time to make a fast buck is now.
Monica from Manipur was in for a shock when one of the airlines quoted Rs 20,000 as the air fare to Imphal from Bangalore.
“On regular days, I used to fly to Imphal at Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000. What the airlines are doing is unfair,” she said.
Manu Sharma, headed to Guwahati, said he wanted to leave the City at any cost as most of his friends from the region had left.
“I will come back for sure. But only when our community feels it’s safe in Bangalore,” he said. Many passengers called up the Deccan Herald office to find ways to complain about what they call was “daylight robbery.”
Governor’s appeal
Meanwhile, Governor H R Bhardwaj on Saturday appealed to the people of the North-Eastern states not to flee the City. Lauding the State government for the measures it had taken to check the exodus, Bhardwaj said the North-Eastern people had nothing to be scared of.
