They took out padayatra on the main streets of the town before submitting a memorandum to Tahsildar Dr Dakshayani. They said the Domestic Violence Prevention Act 2005 should be strictly implemented to check harassment, rape, eve teasing and other violent acts outraging the modesty of women.

They said the law against domestic violence was a big support for the activists and organisations striving to safeguard women’s rights. However, there are impediments in process of the law enforcement in different stages.

The additional work of ensuring the implementation of this law has been entrusted upon the Women and Child Welfare Officer. The government should ensure that the officials check violence against women effectively with the legal support.

President of the association H M Laxmamma, Administrative Officer Jayalaxmi and Secretary R Venkatamma led the protest.
